Creating a formula for a cream that can help with the symptoms of psoriasis and eczema has been a long journey of research combined with trial and error. M-Folia started in the days when very little was known about the chemicals and parabens that made up many cleansing and cosmetic products. All we wanted to do was create a product that contained Mahonia Aquifolium (Oregon Grape Root) extract because of its amazing success for clearing psoriasis symptoms in the clinical trials and research that we found. My husband was a lifelong Psoriasis sufferer and our first cream helped clear his skin like nothing else had before. However, as more information came out about the health issues, particularly for psoriasis sufferers, about the side effects of the other ingredients that make up a topical cream, we at M-Folia worked hard to improve and change the formula almost yearly to keep up with the research. We now believe that we have a truly natural and safe combination and we would like to share the main components of our formula with you.
Mahonia Aquifolium (Oregon Grape Root)
First, of course, is the Mahonia Aquifolium extract which makes up 10% of the product. Research has shown it to contain anti microbial, anti fungal and anti proliferative agents that slow down the rapid growth of skin cells and help to combat the symptoms of psoriasis and all related dry skin conditions. It has been proven in clinical trials to help 80% of sufferers and is one of only 8 herbal remedies listed and recommended by the National Psoriasis Foundation. M-Folia Cream has helped thousands of people reduce or clear their symptoms over the years.
Sweet Almond Oil
We use Sweet Almond oil which, historically, has been used in Ancient Chinese, Ayurvedic and Greco-Persian schools of Medicine to treat dry skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Almond oil is well known to be anti-inflammatory and immunity-boosting, and with its emollient and sclerosant properties, Almond Oil has been used to improve complexion and skin tone.
Glycerin
Glycerin is a clear, odourless, sweet liquid used in many skin care products to take advantage of its moisturising and lubricating qualities. Glycerin, or glycerol, helps cells to mature in a normal fashion, as opposed to psoriasis, where there is a signal to the skin to proliferate excessively and cause thick plaques. The Journal of Investigative Dermatology published a report stating that glycerin can benefit and treat psoriasis through helping skin cells mature normally. There are 4 normal stages of skin growth and glycerin helps a psoriasis sufferers skin go through these steps properly.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil has great medicinal value for psoriasis sufferers. Rich in iodine which fights harmful bacteria growth, Jojoba oil works as a protectant and a cleanser. This wonderful oil also contains excellent anti inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which help to soothe the pain caused by the dry, scaly patches that are associated with Psoriasis. It also reduces redness and itching. The vitamin E and other antioxidants in jojoba oil can go a long way in reducing inflammation and swelling.
Tocopherol Acetate
Tocopherol Acetate is a naturally occurring antioxidant and is a specific form of vitamin E that’s often found in skin care products and dietary supplements. Vitamin E is known for its antioxidant properties which help to protect the body from damaging compounds called free radicals and also has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.
