Scalp Psoriasis is a skin disorder that creates raised, reddish and often scaly patches. As with all types of Psoriasis and Eczema, it is not fully known what the causes are. It is mostly considered to be an autoimmune disease which causes the skin cells to grow too quickly and build up into patches. Scalp Psoriasis is the most common of all Psoriasis, Eczema and dry skin conditions and is often hereditary. More than half of all sufferers have Scalp Psoriasis.
What are the main symptoms of Scalp Psoriasis?
These are the most common symptoms of Scalp Psoriasis:
- Red, scaly, bumpy patches
- Silvery white scales
- Dandruff-like flaking
- Itching
- Burning and soreness
- Hair Loss
Scalp Psoriasis itself doesn’t cause hair loss, but there are a number of factors can worsen the symptoms, such as scratching, picking or harsh treatments and with the stress that comes with this condition can sometimes lead to temporary hair loss. Fortunately, it’s common for the hair to grow back after your skin clears.
Scalp Psoriasis may be worsened or triggered by a number of factors such as:
- Lack of Vitamin D
- Excess Alcohol
- Infections such as strep throat or skin infections
- Skin Injuries
- Smoking
- Some Medications
- Stress
M-Folia Psoriasis Hair Care Treatment products are designed to help combat the symptoms of Scalp Psoriasis and all related dry scalp conditions. We have developed a range that includes Scalp Oil Treatment for applying to the roots, massaging into the scalp and leaving for some time to allow scales to soften, itching to be relieved and the swelling and soreness to be reduced. We recommend washing this out with our M-Folia Psoriasis Treatment Shampoo and, if possible, adding our Conditioner at the end to ensure that the scalp stays moisturised and the hair is soft and flake-free. All of our products at M-Folia contain 100% pure Mahonia Aquifolium extract which has been proven in many clinical trials to have anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-proliferative properties that work so well to reduce or clear the symptoms of Psoriasis.
We also looked very carefully at the other ingredients that we wanted to add to our formula to create the perfect balance to help heal the scalp, stimulate hair growth and ease pain and discomfort. For these reasons we chose the following pure plant extracts to add to our Scalp Oil:
Nobilis Flower Oil – Roman Chamomile
Chamomile is known for soothing itchy skin and preventing infection. It helps to stimulate the production of white cells within our bodies, improving the skin’s elasticity and healing itchy or dry patches.
Cananga Odorata – Ylang Ylang Oil
Ylang Ylang has powerful yet gentle antibacterial and astringent properties and, in some cases, its powerful effect of easing pain and inflammation can be on the same level as pharmaceutical drugs. Regular use kills the bacteria trapped in the scalp, cleans out dirt, melts away hardened sebum in the pores and regulates hair growth.
Junipeus Communis – Juniper Berry Oil
Juniper oil is very effective for acne, eczema, psoriasis and dandruff as it helps to reduce inflammation and inhibit the growth of bacteria. This versatile oil also stimulates blood circulation and promotes blood purification. The antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-fungal properties of juniper essential oil allows it to fight the skin irritations in scalp psoriasis.
Melaleuca Alternifolia – Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil is an ancient remedy that was originally used by the aboriginal people of Australia to treat skin ailments. The antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti fungal properties of the oil makes it the perfect natural remedy to reduce itching and cleanse the roots of your hair. This opens up clogged pores, enabling the scalp to breathe, stay hydrated, and promote a more healthy hair and scalp.
